Four curved legs rise from a 125-metre square, meet at the second floor and run on as one shaft to the top. The great arches under the first floor are decoration: the iron would stand without them.
Modelled from simple shapes at roughly its true size, and rendered in clay. The map draws the rest the one way it draws everything: the ground under Paris, as contour lines coloured by height, with its water and its names.
